Black Ranch charcoal is a high-quality, high-calorie charcoal. It is vegetable-based and produced from the wood of the quebracho (holm oak) tree. This hardwood has a very dense structure, which means that the vegetable charcoal has a very high burning value, which is reflected in the duration of combustion and the high temperatures. Argentinian hardwood species from the Quebracho tree. It comes from Spanish: 'Quiebra Hacha': 'Break the ax'.

Burns for hours longer than 'normal' charcoal and can therefore be used several times. Very heavy hardwood; 1.2 Kg, which gives the charcoal a particularly high burning value. This translates into a very long burning time and a high temperature!

Charcoal is offered in various types. A good charcoal contains a rough selection of obsolete pieces. This ensures that the charcoal burns constantly and that sufficient oxygen can get between the pieces, allowing all the pieces to ignite.

Good charcoal is not mixed, but consists of one type of wood. This is also important to keep the temperature constant. If you have a kamado such as a Big Green Egg or a Bastard, then charcoal is the perfect fuel. Charcoal is able to continue burning with very little oxygen and is also capable of becoming terribly hot.

Briquettes require a minimum amount of oxygen and often extinguish prematurely when used in a kamado.
