      My boyfriend Dennis and I could always be found in the woods every weekend. With planks under our arms, pockets full of nails and screws, and armed with a screwdriver and hammer, we walked from home to our building site among the trees. Building huts, whether in wind or rain, didn’t matter to us. When we got hungry in the afternoon, we would simply light a fire, grab a pointed stick and skewer a sausage, frikandel or anything else edible.

      By now, Dennis is a colleague of mine, and we still occasionally hold a sausage over the fire. Only now, we use our handy stainless steel skewers instead of a stick. Ideal for a garden party or indoors by the fireplace! Oh yes, as for the frikandel, you’d better prepare that in a deep fryer…
