With the sweet, spicy BBQ sauce he entered the largest sparerib competition in the country, the Mike Royko Rib-off. He won 1st prize out of 700 participants. That says it all. He named the sauce after the nickname his brother, David, once got when he played basketball on Chicago's West Side - 'Sweet Baby Ray'. The rest, as they say, is history.
