He entered the country's biggest sparerib competition, the Mike Royko Rib-off, with the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce. He won 1st prize out of 700 participants. That says it all. He named the sauce after the nickname his younger brother, David, was given while playing basketball on Chicago's West Side – 'Sweet Baby Ray'. The rest, as they say, is history.
